武昌起義是在黃花崗起義失敗後，部分革命黨人決定把目標轉向長江流域，準備在以武漢為中心的兩湖地區發動一次新的武裝起義。通過革命黨人的努力，終於在1911年（農曆辛亥年）10月10日成功地發動了具有劃時代意義武昌起義。起義的勝利，逐步使清朝走向滅亡。武昌起義結束了中國兩千年的封建帝制，建立了亞洲第一個民主共和國--「中華民國」，是亞洲諸國和中國走向美式民主共和的開端。
